WELCOME TO SCIENCE & SOCIAL STUDIES!!!!!

We always have FUN in Science and Social Studies.  Students are usually busy working on projects of all kinds.  The projects are created at school or home. They are graded and displayed in the Lake Crest Library for a week or two.  The students agree on their grading system for the projects.  We like for it to be fair for everyone.

In Science we study the Life Sciences, Earth Sciences, Physical Sciences, and Environmental Sciences.  Social Studies includes studying Map Skills, Illinois, Native Americans, Pilgrims, Our Community, U.S. States and Capitals, World Explorers, and the History of America.  The Third, Fourth, and Fifth Graders will complete the year with a wealth of information learned in these two very important subjects.  My teaching goal is for the Fourth Graders to Meet and Exceed the State Standards on the Science ISAT Tests this spring.

LET'S SHOW THE STATE WHAT WE'VE LEARNED!!!!!

Welcome!!

Dear 1st Graders and Parents,

Welcome to 1st grade!!    I am very excited about this school year.    Your child will learn to read, write stories, add, subtract, and so much more.   I hope to make this experience a fun and exciting one, and to instill a love of learning.

I am looking forward to meeting all of you.   I believe that a good parent-teacher relationship is necessary for maximum school success.  I hope we can work together to make this year one of growth, discovery, and significance for your child.  I encourage you to contact me if you have questions or concerns.   I will communicate with you through a weekly newsletter, a weekly reflection, notes, phone calls, and progress reports.

I will send the students home with their “take-home” folder every night.  This will contain your child’s class work and will allow you to see the progress your child is making, or specific areas that may need more practice.

I am looking forward to a FANTASTIC year!!

Welcome Back, My Little Ones!

I am ready to start a new school year!  Are you?

I don't know what this year has in store for us, but I am excited to find out!  I have had a busy summer visiting family, hanging out with friends, and going to water aerobics.  I even bought the Wii Fit and have had a ton of fun with that, too.  I also have been busy TRYING to train our new puppy.  His name is Jax and he is a German Shepherd.  Right now, he is 6 months old and weighs 75 pounds!  He's definitely not little, even though he thinks he is! :)

I hope everyone has enjoyed their summer vacations, too!  Now, it's time to get back to work.  Once again, I will continue with assignment books like last year.  I bought some cool stickers and will reward you everyday you bring it in signed.  If you bring it in all four days signed, I will give you one big prize at the end of the week, too!

If moms and dads need to get a hold of me, I encourage you to call me at the school, at 346-2166 or e-mail me at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it .  If you want to stop by and speak with me in person, please do so.  Make sure you check into the office first! :)

I can't wait to work with all of the same students from last year and look forward to working with new ones!

Happy New School Year!

Christmas Party
Tuesday, 08 December 2009 07:28

Thank you to all parents for bringing your child to the Christmas concert.  It was a great success!  They all seemed to really enjoy their performance.  We are now beginning to make preparations for the Christmas party this year.  As in the past, 2nd grade will be doing a gift exchange.  Girls will bring a gift for a girl and boys will bring a gift for a boy.  Please label boy or girl on the package as well as your child's name.  We are asking for a $5.00 gift.  Thank you and Happy Holidays!

Mrs. Tarr
