OHS Math Team Qualifies for State Competition!

            The math team brought home one first place and one third place plaque from regional competition at EIU on Saturday, February 20^th. The highlight of the day was when the algebra 2 team found out they earned first place as a team and earned the right to compete at state. Jesse Clifton placed second overall in the algebra 2 written competition, with Stefanie Borntreger and Liz Timmons tying for fifth place overall. Other members of the state-bound algebra 2 team are Brittni Hoel, Brittany Olinger, and Nic Turner. Also qualifying for state, Cody Borntreger placed second overall in the algebra 1 written competition. State competition will be held on Saturday, May 1^st at the U of I in Urbana-Champaign.

            Lacey Clifton and Dustin Olinger brought home third place medals, for their achievement on the freshman-sophomore two person team. This is the first Oakland "two-person" team to ever place in competition. Our geometry team placed third in their competition, which is a nice achievement since all these students are no longer in a geometry class. This team consisted of TJ Blake, Lacey Clifton, Doug Findley, Skyler Knox, Dustin Olinger, and Emily Warner.

            Other students competing included freshman Wyatt Walsh, and seniors Jay Baker, Toby Board, Austin Locke, Courtnye Moffett, and Caitlyn Strader.

            Coach Patty Hawkins, as well as the students, was thrilled to hear “Oakland High School” called forward for awards so many times again this year, and as always the students enjoyed walking to the front of the room to receive their team plaques and individual awards. The state qualifiers are looking forward to competing at the U of I on Saturday, May 1^st!
